Opunake Cottage Rest Home
Where comfort, care and compassion count
GUEST'S COMMENTS
- We cannot thank the Staff at the Opunake Cottage Rest Home enough for the care, attention, compassion, dignity and respect shown for our mum during her stay. They are totally sincere, dedicated and professional. She was cared for and loved there so much that the staff began to feel like being part of her family. Her final days there were made to be calm and peaceful. Thank you to everyone who made the toughest time of our lives as comfortable as possible...it will never be forgotten. Our dad is now a resident at the Rest Home and he is been given the same care that mum received. We are sincerely grateful.

Thank you for being such caring, compassionate and relentless caregivers. You gave your immediate focus to our family selflessly providing support to all of us and we cannot speak highly enough for your care of mum, Shirley, and also the rehab for dad, Rex, after his knee surgery including developing his plan of recovery before he could return home. Plus, the Cottage’s ‘open door’ policy and providing a home away from home for dad, welcoming him as part of your family to regularly join in with the activities and enjoy meals with the residents and staff.

The Corkill family are hugely grateful to the staff at the Cottage, for making Aunty May’s, (Mavis Hepworth’s), short stay so welcoming and supportive in her final weeks. She loved being back with her family who could pop in any hour of the day and the compassion, hugs and deeds received from the caring staff made her feel right at home.

The Cottage Rest Home is a lovely wee place. My parents were both there, in a double room, and it was lovely that they could stay together. When Dad died the staff were so loving and caring and took great pains to support Mum as much as possible. She is still there and we are grateful for the quality care that she receives. We are always kept informed of any developments , changes to her care and/or medication and this is much appreciated. Thank you Cottage Rest Home.

Our lovely mumma moved into the Cottage on Tuesday. She is the happiest I've seen her since Dad passed 6 years ago.
Sandra and her team of wonderful people helped us with all the paperwork and made mumma's transition easy and stress free.
If you're considering rest home living and are looking for compassionate, caring and respectful staff, good company and great food, our whanau recommend the Cottage.

We've been blown away since the first time that we met you - on visiting Opunake to look at our new home and to see if we could get care for Mum we could only visit on the weekend. We understand you came down especially for us and on meeting you and discussing all different scenarios of what our needs might be, we immediately knew we would be able to move to the area as we knew Mum's care would be covered. Knowing with certainty that Mum's care was covered just made everything so stress free for us to plan and finalise our moving. Your attitude to your work is something to be admired - it is plain to see you give 150% and you give it with so much ease and love because you clearly enjoy what you do. Your ability to balance your professionalism when you relate with all the people in your care, their families, and your staff is outstanding. We noticed how ALL the carers seem happy in their work and how they interact with the residents and their families. When we first visited the Cottage, the Cook on duty even came out and said hi - the feeling it gave us was that it felt more like a home environment than a residential care unit - It is the people that make the difference and when all the staff are loving and kind and relaxed, then the residents will be happy. My mum was certainly not happy about going into care while we settled in and unpacked everything but after only one day at the Cottage, she relaxed and said she was happy and it was the kindness of the staff that made her feel that way - nothing seemed to much trouble for them and this made her feel much happier which in turn relaxed her.
